Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Department of neonatology is headed by Dr Deepak Sharma who has done his MD pediatrics from Pt. B.D. Sharma PGIMS, Rohtak and DNB Neonatology from Fernandez hospital, Hyderabad and is a gold medalist. He has experience of 12 years in the field of neonatal care. He headed the department of neonatology in NIMS Medical College, Jaipur for four years and taught MD residents about the skills of neonatology.

  • Forty five bedded NICU providing state of art care for the newborns of all gestational age and birth weight.
  • Twenty bedded level III care for providing state of art care to all sick neonates and preemies admitted with complicated neonatal problems. It is equipped with advanced ventilators with HFO, CPAP, HHHFNC, Therapeutic hypothermia, laminar flow with TPN.
  • Five bedded isolation NICU for sick neonates which are infected/septic and needs level III care with the goal of doing containment of the infection thus hampering the spread of infection to other neonates. It is equipped with all modalities needed in the management of these critically sick neonates.
  • Twenty bedded level II care for stable neonates who have recovered from their sickness and still need neonatal care. Premature neonates who are staying with us for weight gain and some minor neonatal issues are taken care of in level II.
  • Single room NICU care concept for neonates so that family can be part of treatment of their baby and newborn also receives mother warmth and care from birth. Growing babies are transferred here so that mothers spend maximum time with their neonate before discharge and are well adapted prior to taking home their premies to respective homes.
  • Round the clock availability of experienced neonatologists and pediatricians to take care of the neonates which are admitted with us.
  • Parents are counselled objectively twice daily by neonatologists providing them the daily clinical condition of the neonate.
  • Ante-natal counselling is being done of parents for the mothers who are going to have preterm delivery and for pregnant females who are having fetuses with ante-natally diagnosed malformations.
  • Referring pediatricians and obstetricians are given feedback daily regarding the condition of the admitted neonates.
  • Kangaroo mother care is promoted in all low birth weight neonates so that they have better outcomes.
  • Programmed follow up of all high risk neonates discharged from our NICU with trained developmental pediatrician, physiotherapist, audiologist, retina specialist, occupational therapist and child psychologist
  • In house facility for ROP screening, hearing screening and head sonography for high risk neonates. In house treatment facility with laser by pediatric ophthalmologist and retina specialist.
